Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (TX-26) released the following statement after a bipartisan agreement was reached that funds the Department of Defense and prevents a government shutdown.
“An agreement has been made that will cut $79 billion below President Obama’s 2011 budget proposal. This is the second largest spending cut in the history of our country. More importantly, this agreement will ensure that our military and their families do not see any interruption in their pay and will have the resources they need as America continues to engage in three wars. In addition, this agreement will prevent a government shutdown.

Today the House of Representatives voted on the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, H.R. 1363, which will fund the Department of Defense through the end of the fiscal year. Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (TX-26) voted in favor of H.R. 1363 which passed the House by a vote of 247 to 189.
