Rep. Burgess demands that Congress protect children and sensitive persons from the risk of mercury exposure. Mercury is a powerful neurotoxin that is especially harmful to children and is an essential component of all Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL) currently available. The Democrats "Green Energy Bill" as written would prohibit the sale of incandescent light bulbs by the year 2012, creating a situation where only energy efficient mercury composed CFLs will be available. The Congressman's amendment would provide protection from this dangerous element for the young, old, and infirm. Unfortunately, the Democratic leadership would not accept this exception into their energy efficiency package. The following video discusses his amendment and his valid reasons for concern. |
