WASHINGTON, D.C. – In recognition of Mother’s Day this Sunday, Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX-26) and Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-16) introduced the Gestational Diabetes (GEDI) Act of 2013. According to the American Diabetes Association, up to 18 percent of all pregnancies in the U.S. are affected by gestational diabetes. The GEDI Act aims to lower the incidence of gestational diabetes and prevent women afflicted with this condition and their children from developing Type 2 diabetes. The bill passed the House in 2010, but stalled in the Senate. Read more »

Washington, D.C. –Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) has reintroduced H.R. 1619, the Making Investments Now for Dementia (MIND) Act, with the support of Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), the co-chairs on the Congressional Taskforce on Alzheimer’s. This legislation, through the investment in bonds, would allow all proceeds to be directed to the Director of the National Institutes of Health solely for Alzheimer’s research. Funding for Alzheimer’s research is imperative, as it is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Read more »
Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (TX-26), has reintroduced HR 1469, the Leave Ethanol Volumes at Existing Levels (LEVEL) Act that will halt the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) actions in moving forward with a waiver for an increase in ethanol in fuel. Currently, gasoline contains a 10 percent blend wall of ethanol, known as E-10. Read more »
