A Tribute to a Friend and Mentor

Today, we remember a great Texan - Colonel Sam Johnson. After arriving in Congress, I delivered my first floor speech in 2003 honoring Sam for his service to our nation. I will always be grateful for his mentorship. Sam was a true American hero, a man who risked his life and sacrificed his health for the betterment of all of us and for our country. He knew the true meaning of freedom because he fought for it, and he spent seven long years as a POW in Vietnam. D-Day 2020: Defending the Principles of Democracy

On June 6, 1944, American and Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. This invasion known as D-Day has been called the beginning to the end of World War II. By August of 1944 all of northern France would be liberated and the spring of 1945 lead to the defeat of the Germans. This year marks the 76th anniversary of D-Day. Burgess: Best Practice is to Prepare Now
