ICYMI: Rep. Burgess Joins The Claman Countdown

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee and Chairman of the Budget Committee Health Care Task Force, joined The Claman Countdown to discuss the speaker vote and the ongoing war in Israel.

Highlights:

On the speaker vote: “I voted for Steve Scalise, and we were fortunate to have two great people who are willing to step up and serve as speaker. But Steve carried the majority of the votes, and it's my expectation that we'll get on the floor of the House and confirm his payments speaker with 217 Republican votes.”

On the national debt: “Look, the debt that is the debt is unsustainable. That is what has led to the impasse in the house. Because of the degree of spending at the same time, you see that the United States cannot receive from the world stage the world needs us. Now more than ever.”

On funding for Israel: “I do need to point out that the House of Representatives had passed the defense appropriations bill at a state Foreign Operations appropriations bill, both of which have significant money for Israel. They are sitting over in the Senate, ready to go. If the Senate would pick up and pass how our bills, they could be on their way down to the President for signature before the sun goes down today.”
