Burgess on Reversing the Curse of Public Debt

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee and Chairman of the House Budget Committee Health Taskforce, released the following statement after the House Budget Committee unveiled their Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Resolution.

"In stark contrast to the President's budget, the House Budget Committee's Fiscal Year 2024 budget request to Congress not only offers a 10-year balanced budget but does so without compromising the vital benefits of Social Security and Medicare that so many Americans rely. Our budget is a testament to our commitment to responsible fiscal stewardship,” said Burgess.“This budget champions pro-growth tax policies that alleviate the burden on the middle class and small businesses, fostering economic growth and job creation. It's a budget that doesn't just talk the talk but walks the walk by reducing the gross federal debt by a staggering $14.6 trillion when compared to the President's budget. It's time for our nation to tighten its belt, much like countless American families have had to do. The President's budget, on the other hand, lacks a clear plan to rein in spending. Instead of a budget packed with woke priorities and radical climate measures that only exacerbate the financial pressures on American families, we provide a budget that truly reflects the values and priorities of the American people."
