Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee, released the following statement after the Supreme Court struck down President Biden’s student loan forgiveness scheme. 

“President Biden's student loan scheme was an outrageously blatant ploy to appease his political base from the beginning. It is absolutely infuriating to witness the disregard for hardworking Americans who did not take out student loans or have already paid off their student loans,” said Burgess. “Forcing taxpayers to bear the burden of debts they never willingly assumed is an egregious injustice. President Biden's eagerness to further burden families already struggling under his disastrous economy with additional debt was wrong. In a time of unprecedented inflation and staggering national debt, the audacity to propose such measures is not only misguided but enraging. I fully support the Supreme Court's decision, as it boldly asserts that voters cannot be swayed or manipulated by such flagrant attempts to undermine their financial well-being.”
