Congressman Burgess Defends Law Enforcement in Supporting H.J. Res. 42

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee, released the following statement after voting in support of H.J. Res. 42– The Disapproving the action of the District of Columbia Council in approving the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022.

"I strongly support H.J. Res. 42 because the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022 puts our communities at risk by burdening our police force and creating opportunities for anti-police groups to target individual officers,” said Burgess.“This law also removes officers' collective bargaining rights regarding discipline, which could further erode morale and effectiveness within the DC Police Department. We must prioritize public safety and support our law enforcement officers. H.J. Res 42 is a step in the right direction."
