Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), member of the House Rules Committee and Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health released the following statement about the Phase One Trade Agreement with China.

“This agreement is a step in the right direction towards balancing our agreements with our trading partners,” Burgess said. “Continuing to put America first, this agreement includes strong enforcement mechanisms, increases the amount of American goods and services purchased by China, and will improve the stability of American businesses. I appreciate the President’s commitment to deliver on the promises he made.”

In addition to the enforcement mechanisms and cessation on tariffs, China promises to buy over $200 billion of U.S. good in manufacturing energy, agriculture, and services.
