Rep. Burgess’ Urges Congress To Go the Extra Mile to Ensure No More Toxic Toy Stories

Congressman Michael C. Burgess (R-Texas), M.D., today urged fellow members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee to strengthen the Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act even further:

“This bipartisan bill is the first major overhaul of the Consumer Product Safety Commission since its creation.  That is great news for our families and businesses.

But, lives are on the line so we must do even more.  That is why I am urging Congress to go the extra mile to ensure there are no more toxic toy stories.

Removing dangerous and defective goods from store shelves is critically important.  We must also be able to stop them from coming into this country in the first place.

We need to create a big red stop button for the federal government to push so we can refuse recalled products before they are delivered here.  Americans can refuse packages that come to their homes or business. The federal government should be able to do the same with tainted, foreign goods.”
