Burgess Votes to Protect Our Communities

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee, released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 467 – the HALT Fentanyl Act – to urge the United States Senate to quickly pass this critical legislation.

“It is devastating to read news story after news story about how one pill can kill,”said Burgess. “Earlier this year, three students in North Texas lost their lives to fentanyl. Unfortunately, this is what happens when the President does not prioritize the safety of Americans and leaves an ‘open now’ sign on the southern border. The HALT Fentanyl Act is a step towards helping our communities fight against this crisis. It will permanently schedule fentanyl-related substances and provide law enforcement with the necessary tools to protect our communities. Instead of continuing to ignore this crisis that has made every town in America a border town, House Republicans are continuing to keep our commitment to America by passing this critical legislation.”
