Burgess Votes to Overturn Biden's Costly Student Loan Bailout

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee, stood up for the American taxpayer, voting in favor of H.J. Res. 45 – Congressional Review Act (CRA) Resolution to Overturn Biden's Student Loan Bailout, effectively opposing President Biden's plan to "cancel" debt for individuals earning under $125,000.

“There is no such thing as canceling student debt,” said Burgess.“Today, House Republicans stood united in voicing deep concerns over the unilateral actions taken by President Biden in his pursuit to forgive student loans. Student loan ‘cancellation’ doesn't make the debt disappear; instead, it shifts the financial burden from borrowers onto the shoulders of hardworking U.S. taxpayers who did not take out a student loan. Ultimately, this will cost an estimated $315.6 billion. H.J. Res. 45 also addresses the constitutional concerns surrounding the Biden Administration's actions and safeguards the interests of American taxpayers.”
