Burgess Votes “No” on Massive Omnibus Bill

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), released the following statement after voting against the Omnibus Spending bill.

"Once again, we are scrambling in the 11th hour to avoid a government shutdown just days before Christmas because, under one-party Democrat rule in Washington, the basic duty of funding our government was ignored," said Burgess. "We should not be passing a massive 4,000+ page bill that will cost American taxpayers $1.7 trillion through Congress, especially without proper time for lawmakers to read the legislation.

"The process we saw today is a dangerous cycle threatening American families already struggling under record inflation and rising interest rates. Because Democrats had ample time to pass a budget and ignored that basic responsibility, Congress should have passed a continuing resolution into early next year, allowing a newly elected House Republican majority the opportunity to put an end to reckless spending and curb inflation."
