Burgess Fights to End COVID Vaccine Mandates

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) led over 36 Republicans in offering amendments to prohibit funds being used to implement or enforce President Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate executive orders. During yesterday’s House Rules Committee meeting, his simple, less than a page amendments to the first Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriations Act were blocked by Democrats from being considered on the House floor.

“Vaccine mandates erode public trust and defeat the purpose of ensuring more vaccinations,” said Burgess. “A decision to receive a vaccine is a personal one and should only be done in consultation with a trusted doctor. It is disappointing that Democrats would not allow for these amendments to be brought up for debate and a vote. Americans are working to move past the pandemic, and imposing mandates in the middle of a labor shortage, high inflation, and supply chain crisis hinders that progress.”

“I am grateful for my fellow members who joined me in this effort. The appropriations process should be a representation of how Americans want their tax dollars to be spent.”
