Burgess reacts to SCOTUS decision on vaccine mandates

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) issued the following statement reacting to the Supreme Court's rulings on the Biden Administration's vaccine mandates.

“We are almost a year into the Biden Administration," said Burgess."I remember the President’s words in his inaugural address that he sought to unite the country; however, his edict to mandate vaccines only alienated and divided Americans. He has pitted the vaccinated against the unvaccinated. I am grateful that the Supreme Court blocked Biden’s divisive one-size-fits all rule for businesses. I urged the President, along with fellow members of the GOP Doctors Caucus, to expand our approach in fighting this virus. Hopefully this action from our highest court will signal to the Administration that our focus must also include research and development of effective therapeutics for COVID-19.

“I will say that while this action was a good first step to prevent government overreach, it does not go far enough since the mandate remains in place for health care workers receiving federal dollars. My office is constantly receiving messages from nurses, doctors, physician assistants, the list of health care workers goes on. Many of them are vaccinated, but do not understand the need for the mandate. They feel taken advantageofand just wish that someone would speak for them. I understand their frustration. It is part of why I ran for Congress. It is time that the government listens to health care workers to address their needs, not just speculate. This pandemic already has stretched them thin. Keeping this mandate in place will only continue to let their frustrations fester.”
