Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), released the following statement after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced an Emergency Use Authorization for Pfizer’s oral antiviral treatment of COVID-19.

"The holiday season is one of perpetual hope and this announcement provides more hope that we can overcome this pandemic," said Burgess. "While I believe in the science behind the vaccines, it is critical that we have other tools in our fight against this virus, including safe and effective therapeutics. Having the ability to treat oneself at home is a vital step forward that will aid in relieving the strain on our hospitals and frontline health care workers. I hope that this announcement is a turning point in our fight against this virus."
