Burgess: Smoke and Mirrors won’t help Restaurants Recover

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) voted against another Democrat scheme that will further drive up inflation disguised as a restaurant relief package.

“It is time to put an end to the messaging bills and put forward legislation that will provide real relief to Americans,” said Burgess. “This legislation relies on future potential recoveries to pay for the $55 billion price tag instead of reallocating some of the $340 unobligated COVID relief funds. This is simply more deficit spending that will continue to drive inflation.”

“Alternatively, the House should have considered my friend, Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer’s, legislation, the ENTRÉE Act. I cosponsored this bill, which is paid for by using unobligated funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. It would also end the preferential treatment that rejected 70% of applications for the Restaurant Revitalization Fund. The government should not be in the business of picking winners and losers. We must end the smoke and mirrors just to score political points.”
