Washington, D.C. – On the latest episode of “Doctor in the House,” Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) is joined by former Ambassador to Ukraine, John Herbst. Having served as ambassador during the Orange Revolution, Ambassador Herbst provided a unique perspective during their discussion on the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine. The fight for Ukraine's sovereignty Doctor in the House Podcast Hosted by Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. Listen here

Key Highlights: Herbst: “The problem is that Russia and China want to change the rules that were established in 1945, and which were reinforced in 1991 after the Soviet Union collapsed. Herbst: “If I had to make a prediction at this instant, I would say that the resistance will never cease, that ultimately Russia will have to withdraw, and Ukraine will remain an independent and sovereign country. But if Putin is adamant about keeping the course…it could also be much sooner because Putin's policy over the last nine days has been an absolute disaster for Russia and most people in Russia understand [that disastrous policy].”

Herbst: “If we let Putin win in Ukraine, then that makes it much more likely that [President] Xi [Jinping] will move on Taiwan. But I'll tell you this, thus far, what's happened, I think, is a caution to Xi. I think he, like Putin, is surprised by the unity of the West. I think I already said it, but I'll repeat it because maybe I didn't. I think Putin's greater objectives to seize influence in Poland and other Warsaw Pact states is probably now gone. Because it seems like almost the entire West has awakened to the Putin danger.”
