Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), joined Fox & Friends First to talk about the crisis at our southern border.
Highlights:
Federal government must step up: “This is absolutely unacceptable. Of course, I am grateful for the help the state is providing but, this is a federal responsibility. This is not something that the state government should have to participate in and debate since this money should come from the federal government to provide for Customs and Border Protection and Border Patrol.”
Increase federal border spending: “The money [from the budget resolution] needs to go to the border. The money needs to go to national defense. First and foremost, that is our constitutional responsibility. “
Reimburse Texas: “The money that Texas is spending to do our job, the federal government’s job, should be reimbursed to the state. The Texas Department of Public Safety has done a phenomenal job in trying to be the backstop at our border."
