We learned that in February the Office of Refugee Resettlement at the Department of Health and Human Services received the highest number of referrals of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) in the history of the program. In addition, Customs and Border Patrol encountered over 100,000 individuals along our southern border attempting to cross without authorization. 

Last week, to gain a better understanding of what was exactly happening I took a trip to our southern border. I mentioned during a press conference, that the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that we are facing an "impending doom" with COVID-19 spikes. Instead of blaming Americans for these spikes the Administration should pay attention to the crisis they are causing at the border.

Before Congress can fully address our broken immigration system, we must end the crisis at the border. I joined fellow House Budget Committee Republicans in sending a letter to President Biden seeking a hearing on why we have frozen the funds appropriated to build a border wall. In addition to abandoning equipment and still having to pay the contracts, abruptly halting work on the wall at our southern border may in fact have been illegal and violation to the Impoundment Control Act.
