Dear Friends,

The National Institutes of Health announced 25 awards under the National Cancer Institute, creating the Serological Sciences Network for COVID-19, the nation’s largest coordinated effort to study immunology and COVID-19 in the United States.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent a warning letter to Battelle Memorial Institute for failure to comply with regulatory requirements for medical device reporting as specified in the Emergency Use Authorization for the Battelle Critical Care Decontamination System.

  • The FDA updated the dashboard on the Coronavirus Treatment Acceleration Program webpage, which shows the development of possible coronavirus therapies. As of September 30, over 550 drug development programs were in planning stages, over 350 trials were reviewed by FDA and 5 COVID-19 treatments were currently authorized for emergency use.

The Department of Health and Human Services released episode one in the COVID-19 video series, Tell Me More, which discusses the science of vaccine development and Operation Warp Speed, featuring Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Moncef Slaoui, Dr. Hahn, and Dr. Kadlec.

Texas Updates
Governor Abbott issued an executive order, effective October 14, permitting bars to open at 50% capacity and other establishments, such as amusement parks and movie theaters, to expand to 75% capacity, provided these openings occur in regions with low COVID-19 hospitalizations.
