Walden, Burgess on House Passage of 16 Bipartisan E&C Health Bills

Washington, D.C. -- Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) and Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Dr. Michael Burgess (R-TX) released the following statement after the House passed 16 bipartisan health bills from the Energy and Commerce Committee. Last week, the House passed ten bipartisan bills from the Health Subcommittee.

“As the pandemic continues to worsen Americans’ mental health, we’re glad to advance more mental health and suicide prevention legislation. We are particularly proud to address mental health for school children as this pandemic has changed their schooling – and really their whole world – in addition to supporting other health services available through schools to keep kids healthy. Monday was the 2-year anniversary of the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act passing the House, and we are continuing our commitment to help those with substance use disorders through legislation passed today. We voted to extend postpartum care in Medicaid, reauthorize a program that incentivizes treatments for rare pediatric diseases, and provide important public health data to Native American Tribes, who are being disproportionally impacted by COVID-19. These are just a few things achieved through these measures and we thank our colleagues for working in a bipartisan way so communities across the country can benefit from these important programs and resources,” said Walden and Burgess.
