Dear Friends,

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)released 1.5 million N95 respirators from the Strategic National Stockpile for distribution to over 3,000 nursing home facilities.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)issued an emergency use authorization to Abbott Diagnostics for the first antigen test where health care providers can read the results directly from the testing card 15 minutes after swabbing the patient.

  • The FDA broadened the scope of the existing emergency use authorization for remdesivir to include treatment of all hospitalized adult and pediatric patients with suspected or laboratory-confirmed COVID-19.
  • The FDA issued a consumer warning regarding alcohol-based hand sanitizers that are being packaged in containers that may appear as food or drinks, such as beer cans, children’s food pouches, and water bottles.
  • The FDA partnered with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to publish a checklist for protecting food industry employees from COVID-19.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced aid in addition to the COVID-19 waivers already in place for health care providers in in Louisiana and Texas during the COVID-19 and Hurricane Laura public health emergencies.

The National Academies of Sciences Engineering Medicine is accepting public comments on a discussion draft of the Preliminary Framework for Equitable Allocation of COVID-19 Vaccine.
