Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), member of the House Rules Committee and Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health released the following statement after Governor Greg Abbott announced a State of Emergency for the State of Texas.

“I appreciate the sincerity of Governor Abbott’s address this afternoon,” Burgess said. “His decisive actions show that Texas is taking this pandemic seriously.”

“His plan to combat the virus shows ingenuity by planning to dramatically increase testing and have drive by testing locations in San Antonio.

“By declaring a State Disaster, Texas will now be able to release needed resources to prevent further spread of this virus.”
