Burgess Statement on President Trump’s Plan to Expand Americans’ Health Care Choices

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Republican Leader of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement on President Trump’s plan to expand Americans’ access to health care choices. This rule allows businesses to provide health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs), enabling employers to use pretax dollars to subsidize individual market insurance plans for their employees.

“It is important that President Trump is taking commonsense steps to expand Americans’ health care choices and give businesses more room to thrive. Health reimbursement arrangements are another simple solution to make health insurance plans work for – and not against – the American people. While I commend President Trump for taking action, Congress must follow through and pass legislation that will ensure HRAs remain an option for business owners and their employees – essentially offering the American people the same deal for health insurance that they gave themselves in the Affordable Care Act.”
