Washington, D.C. — Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Conference Report to Accompany H.R. 5515 - John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act.
“After years of neglect, Republicans in Congress are continuing to ensure that our Armed Forces – the arsenal of American democracy – have the resources they need to defend and protect our nation. With today’s vote to authorize full funding for the Armed Forces for Fiscal Year 2019, Congress has provided the means to strengthen our national defense, restore readiness, and provide our troops with their largest pay raise in nine years. This legislation also includes my Audit the Pentagon Amendment, which is another step forward in guaranteeing that the Department of Defense has an accurate accounting of its resources. It is essential that each dollar Congress appropriates is well-spent to reinforce our national security and provide for our troops.”
