Burgess announces art competition winners

Denton Record Chronicle, April 25, 2009
U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Lewisville, announced today that Morgan Everhart of Denton has been named the winner of the seventh annual 26th Congressional District Art Competition.

Everhart, a senior art student at Guyer High School, won first prize with her mixed-media composition, titled Huddle.

“This contest is designed to highlight the artistic achievements of our local high school students and to share their talents with the rest of the country,” Burgess said in a news release.

Burgess honored all of the participants at a reception hosted by the Greater Denton Arts Council at the Center for the Visual Arts.

Everhart’s work will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol complex for the coming year.

Spencer Lynn, representing Liberty Christian School in Argyle, won second place and will have his artwork displayed in Burgess’ Lewisville district office for the next year. Third-place winner Katherine Janes, representing Marcus High School in Flower Mound, will have her artwork hung in the Fort Worth district office. Miranda Wargo of Guyer High School won the Texas Choice award by popular vote of the reception attendees.

“Congratulations are in order for Morgan, Spencer, Katherine and Miranda for their creative achievements,” Burgess said.
