2024 Emergency Preparedness Summit & Fair

Join us as we #PrepareNTX! You are invited to attend Congressman Burgess’ Emergency Preparedness Summit & Fair on Saturday morning, April 13th in Hickory Creek. Attendees will learn how to be better prepared for severe weather and unexpected natural & man-made disasters that may impact North Texas! Congressman Burgess is partnering with the Hickory Creek Police Department, the Lake Cities Fire Department, Lake Dallas ISD and the Denton County Office of Emergency Management as well as local, state and federal entities and other disaster response organizations. This free event will be enjoyable and informative for the whole family, kids to seniors.

Families can tour the exciting “Touch the Truck” parking lot displays, featuring fire & police department vehicles and boats used on local lakes by the US Army Corps of Engineers & Town of Hickory Creek. There will also be a CareFlite Helicopter, Flower Mound Fire’s emergency transport AMBUS, the Salvation Mobile Canteen, and other specialized emergency response vehicles! Inside, parents will have the opportunity to meet with Dallas US Secret Service Field Office staff who can prepare an “Operation Safe Kids” identification kit containing their child’s biographical data, a current photo and digitized inkless fingerprints (information will not be stored). 

Panelists will provide a school safety briefing and present timely information regarding Lake Safety, CyberSecurity, School Safety and Community Preparedness that parents will find helpful. Experts from the National Weather Service and DFW broadcast meteorologists will present: “Making Sense of the North Texas Weather” with guest panelists: Tom Bradshaw: Meteorologist-in-Charge - WFO Dallas Fort Worth National Weather Service, Brad Barton: Chief Meteorologist – WBAP 820AM Radio and Jeff Ray: Senior Meteorologist – CBS 11 KTVT & TXA 21.

Stop by and check out the KidZone, where original “Salute Our First Responders” artwork by Lake Dallas ISD elementary students will be on display. Children of all ages will be fascinated by demonstrations at CoServ’s “Power Town” and FEMA’s Storm Water Table and Virtual Reality Flood Booth. There will also be free #TexasReady backpacks & First Aid Kits available at Congressman Burgess’ table (as long as supplies last) and sign-up for smoke alarms compliments of the American Red Cross. Carrollton Regional Medical Center will be onsite offering glucose & blood pressure testing. DCTA will be providing safety coloring books and Denton County CERT will show you how to sign-up for Emergency Alerts and prepare a Family Communication Plan.
