Washington, D.C. –Anticipating tonight’s State of the Union (SOTU), Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman for the House Rules Committee, joined Newsmax’s National Report to provide a preview of what to expect.



Highlights:

On Jobs: “What you're seeing, of course, is the uptick in jobs because they were artificially suppressed during the lockdowns. During the Coronavirus pandemic, I would submit these are also from the lockdowns that were continued by the Biden Administration after the vaccines were developed. But look, you can expect the President to take a victory lap. But what you've shown in your polling is people saying, ‘I am not buying it.’” 

On the Economy: “You can't find eggs in the Walmart, but if you do, a carton of 18 eggs is going to cost almost $10. This is what people are feeling. They're feeling in their wallets and their gas bills and their grocery bills. And they're saying, ‘I'm sorry, Mr. President, I can't keep up with your good times.’” 

On the Border: “The problem is you have so many people flooding those border checkpoints that Customs Border Protection cannot do their job. They're tied up with basically housekeeping activities trying to process the literally millions of people that are streaming into our border. Why because Joe Biden told them there was no border and everyone could come in no questions asked, and they have responded in kind.”
