Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), released the following statement after learning about the passing of fellow Rules Committee Member, Congressman Alcee Hastings (D- FL).
“It is certainly a solemn day,” said Burgess. “It was difficult to learn of the passing of Alcee Hasting. He fervently battled against cancer and did not let the disease prevent him from continuing to serve the people of Florida.”
“Since 2013, I have had the honor to serve alongside Congressman Hastings as Members of the Rules Committee. While our sparring is immortalized on social media, I know that even in disagreement Alcee sought to better the world around him.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his Patricia, their three children, and his staff during this difficult time.”
