Washington, D.C. – After Speaker Pelosi once again provided text for a bill over 2,000 pages and filled with a wish list of partisan demands, Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), a member of the House Rules Committee and Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement on H.R. 925 - America’s Conservation Enhancement Act.

"The American people are looking to Congress to provide leadership and relief during this pandemic. Instead of putting forward legislation that will do just that, Speaker Pelosi shoved a partisan agenda through the House,” said Burgess.

“Americans are suffering. Congress should focus on what will reduce that suffering; however, the Speaker is holding needed relief for our airline industries, small businesses, and frontline workers hostage simply because she does not want to let a good crisis go to waste.

“She ignored a decades long agreement in the Hyde Amendment by removing the safeguards in the Paycheck Protection Program that would prevent taxpayer money from bailing out Planned Parenthood.

"Further, it was disheartening to watch today in the Rules Committee hearing as Republican Leader Cole asked Appropriations Committee Republican Leader Granger if she was even offered a call to discuss this supplemental bill, and then to learn she was not. This is not the way to govern.

“I urge Democrats to stop wasting time and pull up a chair at the table. Republicans have been waiting and are ready to get to work on the behalf of all Americans.”
