Burgess: Congress Should Put Forward Comprehensive Immigration Reform

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), a member of the House Rules Committee and Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement after the Supreme Court decided 5-4 against President Trump’s executive order to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

“Congress needs to stop letting the judiciary and executive branches do its job,” Burgess said. “While I disagree with the decision from the Supreme Court today, it does not negate that it is Congress’ constitutional responsibility to consider a lasting solution for our broken immigration system. DACA was never an appropriate or legal answer. Today’s decision is just another reason why the House of Representatives needs to return to Washington and get to work.”
