Burgess: Speaker Pelosi’s Actions Dishonored the Heroes And Their Families Attending the SOTU

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), member of the House Rules Committee and Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health released the following statement after he voted for the Privileged Resolution to Admonish Speaker Pelosi.

“Tuesday evening America witnessed unprecedented and poorly timed actions of Speaker Nancy Pelosi,” Burgess said.

“Her disrespectful actions were not only towards the President, but to the heroes and their families that were honored that evening. Her actions were unbecoming as the leader of the People’s House and degrading to the institution.

“It does not matter whether she agreed with the words spoken by the President; it is her duty as the presiding officer of the House of Representatives to conduct herself in a civil manner.

“I appreciate Rep. Kay Granger putting forward this resolution of disapproval. My desire is that we will move away from such partisanship and work together for the American people.”
