March 12, 2021: A Doctor's Note on COVID-19

Dear Friends, This week, I joined Fox and Friends First to discuss the crisis that is happening at our Southern Border. It is very concerning that over 100 COVID-19 positive migrants were released into the U.S. During debate for the Democrats' American Rescue Plan, I offered an amendment that would provide COVID-19 testing and PPE to those crossing our border. It was blocked from being added as an amendment. National Updates: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have updated guidance for nursing homes to expand visitation options dur... Burgess votes to protect the Second Amendment

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), released the following statement after voting against both Democratic Gun Control Bills – H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446. “I do not know a single Member of Congress who does not want to prevent senseless gun violence,” said Burgess. “There is a consensus in Congress to address what reforms are truly needed; however, adding more regulation without having proper oversight will only keep guns out of the hands of law-abiding Americans. “That is why I offered an amendment to H.R. 1446 that would require the Department of Justice to provide a rep... Burgess: Congress should work for every American

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Republican Leader Designee to the Budget Committee, released the following statement after voting against the Democrats’ partisan American Rescue Plan. “Throughout the entire Budget Reconciliation process, Americans watched as Democrats, with a slight majority, rejected opportunities to work in a bipartisan manner,” said Burgess. “Last week, I made statements about how Republicans were excluded from this process in the House of Representatives. Then, once the bill moved to the Senate, Democrats held a vote open for nearly half a d... Read More »

Republicans say migrant surge 'a guaranteed super spreader event'

A group of Republicans on Monday demanded that Homeland Security begin to test illegal immigrants caught jumping the U.S.-Mexico border for the coronavirus or, better yet, be prevented from entering in the first place. Led by Rep. Michael Burgess, Texas Republican, nearly two dozen GOP lawmakers said the illegal immigrants are being crowded into processing facilities, making it “a guaranteed super spreader event.” “At the very least, all individuals encountered along our southern border must be tested for coronavirus and provided with personal protective equipment,” the Republicans wrote in a ... March 5, 2021: A Doctor's Note on Vaccine Safety

Dear Friends, There is still a lot of misinformation out there about the COVID-19 vaccines and the science behind their development. To address these concerns, I drafted an op-ed for The Hill to dispel the false information and provide you with the facts. Also, Governor Abbott announced that effective March 10, Texas businesses will be able to open at 100% capacity and the mask mandate would be lifted. Thursday morning, I told Fox News Todd Piro and Carley Shimkus that I still plan to wear an N95 when I go to the grocery store or other places, but believe with three safe and effective vaccines... Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), released the following statement after voting against Democrats' messaging bill, the Justice in Policing Act. “Last year, Senator Tim Scott brought forward a bipartisan, bicameral piece of legislation to provide needed reforms to police departments across the nation. This reform bill put forward policies that would permanently remove bad actors from serving on any police force, provide the resources law enforcement needs to be adequately prepared to serve our communities, and attract and retain the highest caliber recruits,” said ... Burgess: Election should be for the people not the politicians

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), released the following statement after voting against H.R. 1. “It is disappointing that the Democrats are more concerned about keeping their jobs than allowing the American people to decide who holds these sacred offices,” said Burgess. “Congress should be wary of allotting so much influence to the Federal Government in the determination of our elections. “There are problems within our election system that need to be reformed. Many of those issues must be handled on the state level. When it comes to making reforms, the Federal Gov... Read More »

It is wrong that the Affordable Care Act pe... Read More »

Americans have decided to give professionals a chance

President Biden is the latest in a long line of presidents who promised to end the bitter division in American politics. The first President Bush offered a “kinder, gentler” politics. He was fired after one term. Bill Clinton called himself a “New Democrat” and embraced a “third way” alternative to both liberalism and conservatism. He got impeached. George W. Bush called himself “a uniter, not a divider.” The country did unite after the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01. It lasted one year, until the Bush administration announced the “rollout” of the U.S. invasion of Iraq in September 2002. Barack ... Read More »
