Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), a member of the House Rules Committee and Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an Emergency Use Authorization for the Pfizer/BioNTech novel Coronavirus 2019 vaccine.

 “It is a great day to be an American,” said Burgess. “To have a safe and effective vaccine not even one year from learning about the existence of this virus is an outstanding accomplishment. This is a true testament to the dedication, hard work, and brain power of American scientists. I said from the beginning of this pandemic that it would be because of American innovation we would defeat this virus, and this Emergency Use Authorization proves it.”
