Dear Friends,

Today the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced 30 bills, several of which will help fight COVID-19 and bolster the health care system. There were several legislative victories today:

  • Committee approval of my bill, H.R. 5534, which extends coverage for kidney transplant patients to receive immunosuppressive drugs. The committee also adopted my technical amendment to this bill.
  • Passage of my amendment to H.R. 1646, which would secure funding for frontline health care workers to receive mental health services.
  • Passage of H.R. 7574, authorization to strengthen the Strategic National Stockpile, the nation’s repository of critical medical supplies. I am an original cosponsor of this legislation.
Each of these important bills is now on its way to being considered on the House floor.

National Updates
The National Institutes of Health published positive interim Phase 1 results of the investigational vaccine, mRNA-1273, sponsored by Moderna.

The Department of Health and Human Services is announcing a large-scale procurement of authorized rapid point-of-care diagnostic test instruments and tests to be distributed to nursing homes in COVID-19 hotspot areas.

Until next time, this is your doctor's note.
