Burgess Statement on E&C Republican Leader Greg Walden

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Republican Leader of the Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement on Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden’s announcement that he will be retiring at the end of the 116th Congress.

“While sad to hear the news of Leader Greg Walden’s retirement,” Burgess said, “I look forward to working with him for the remainder of this Congress to accomplish the leader’s priorities.”

Greg Walden has a proven, successful track record of leadership and reaching across the aisle to accomplish meaningful legislation. I have enjoyed working with him to build upon the Energy and Commerce Committee’s record of success.

Over the years, Greg and I have fought to provide solutions for everyday Americans. Through Greg’s leadership we championed the SUPPORT Act. This law was a bipartisan effort to put an end to the opioid crisis facing many communities throughout our country.

Before coming to Congress, Greg owned and operated radio stations in Hood River and The Dalles. I credit his radio voice for being able to properly and strongly put forward conservative arguments.

Greg understood the importance of listening to both sides of the argument and through his leadership as chairman for the Energy and Commerce Committee, 93 percent of the bills approved by committee proceeded to the floor with bipartisan support.

We are losing a leader and a fighter for the American people with this announcement. I appreciate his many years of dedicated service to our country, and I wish him and Mylene many happy years during the next chapter of their lives.”
