Burgess Receives UT Health Houston Distinguished Alumni Award

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Chairman of the House Budget Committee Health Care Task Force, spoke at the McGovern Medical School 2023 Distinguished Alumnus Award Ceremony and received the UT Health Houston Distinguished Alumni Award.

Since 1987, the Distinguished Alumni Award honors alumni of the McGovern Medical School who made significant contributions in medical science education, prevention, or treatment of disease.

"With much gratitude, it is my highest honor to accept the UT Health Houston Distinguished Alumni Award," said Congressman Burgess. "UT Health Houston played one of the most important roles in my professional career and was the cornerstone that led me to becoming a third-generation doctor with over 25 years of experience. My love for being a public servant and caring for the wellbeing of the people in my community did not stop there. I joined Congress to share the challenges I witnessed that American patients go through within the health care system. This encouraged me to use my experience of being a practicing physician to create policies that provide the necessary access to quality, affordable health care. After 22 years of representing the great Lone Star State, I am eager to begin my next journey in the service of my fellow Texans. I am humbled by this recognition and am very glad to be an alumnus of UT Health Houston."
