Burgess Votes to End the Pandemic

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Vice Chairman of the House Rules Committee, released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 382, the Pandemic is Over Act. This legislation passed the House 220 to 210.

“In September, President Biden admitted that the pandemic is over. Despite this declaration, this administration just authorized the 12th extension of the COVID-19 public health emergency,” said Burgess. “Americans are not just transitioning to their normal routines but have resoundingly returned to them. It is time that the Biden Administration follow suit and seriously discuss a plan to transition out of this pandemic.”

“The House majority continues to press the administration for a plan to make permanent the policies that work and unwind the policies that do not. While there were several successful policies and innovations that came out of the emergency declaration, such as telehealth, this administration has repeatedly failed provide a plan. It is irresponsible to allow this public health emergency to serve as a permanent means for the Biden Administration to subvert Congress and enact their radical agenda.”
