Washington, D.C. — Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement after the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approved Texas’ Section 1115 Medicaid waiver extension.

“The extension of the state’s Section 1115 Medicaid waiver is great news for patients and doctors in Texas. As a key advocate of this collaboration between CMS and the State of Texas, I am glad to see an agreement reached that will ensure millions of Texans continue to receive the care they need. This waiver extension allows vital Medicaid dollars to reach hospitals that provide care to disadvantaged and underserved patients in Texas –an important priority for hospitals across the state, especially those in North Texas. Hospitals, such as Parkland Memorial in Dallas, depend on these crucial Medicaid payments to offer care, and I commend the State of Texas and CMS for working together and reaching this important agreement that is a win for Texas patients and healthcare providers.”
