BURGESS SWORN IN AS NEW CONGRESSMAN

Today, the newly elected Congressman Dr. Michael C. Burgess was sworn in as the U.S. Representative for the 26th Congressional District, which encompasses Denton County, as well as, Northeast Tarrant, and portions of Collin and Wise Counties. Burgess, who represents the Twenty-Sixth Congressional District, was sworn in during the opening ceremony of the 108th Congress in the House chamber of the U.S. Capitol.
“I am humbled to be a sworn Member of the United States House of Representatives. It is an honor for me to come to Washington to serve the constituents of North Texas,” Burgess stated following the ceremony. “I am anxious for the Session to begin and I believe Congress and the White House have enormous potential to do positive things for our nation. I will be a strong advocate for children, families, and seniors.”
Burgess was joined in the House gallery by his family. His wife, Laura, their three children, Christine, Jessica and Mike, attended the swearing in-ceremony. Burgess’ father, Dr. Harry Burgess, brother, Dr. Richard Burgess, and sister Terry Widmer, also came to Washington for the ceremony.
Dr. Michael Burgess grew up in Denton County, Texas. He is a graduate of North Texas State University (Now the University of North Texas) where he received Bachelor and Masters degrees in Physiology. He received his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed residency programs at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Dr. Burgess has also received Masters Degrees in Medical Management from the University of Texas.
Dr. Michael Burgess is a second-generation Denton County Doctor who has delivered more than 3000 local babies. He is the founder of a private practice, Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates of Lewisville, former Chief of Staff for Lewisville Medical Center, and Chief of Obstetrics at Lewisville Medical Center.
“North Texans can be assured that I will work tirelessly with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure we bring much needed transportation tax dollars back to the area to solve our congestion problems, more adequately-fund our healthcare system, provide much needed tax cuts to stimulate our economy, and support full funding of education programs that allow our children to succeed.”
