Burgess: I trust the Vice President

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), a member of the House Rules Committee, released the following statement after voting against H. Res. 21 to pressure Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment.

"If Congress believes that Vice President Pence is of sound mind to lead our country for the next eight days, then we must trust his decision that at this time he does not need to invoke the 25th Amendment. In a letter to Nancy Pelosi, Vice President Pence said, ‘Last week, I did not yield to pressure to exert power beyond my constitutional authority to determine the outcome of the election, and I will not now yield to efforts in the House of Representatives to play political games at a time so serious in the life of our Nation.’ For ten years, I served alongside the Vice President when he was a member of the House of Representatives and can attest to his dedication to serve and protect the U.S. Constitution. I have no doubt that he is continuing to do so," said Burgess.
