Burgess Reintroduces H.R. 1040

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Republican Leader of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement after he reintroduced H.R. 1040, the Flat Tax Act.

“For far too long, our tax system has been one of complexity, confusion, and disenfranchisement. In 2017, President Trump and Republicans in Congress passed the first tax reform package in thirty years. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act resulted in historic progress; however, a truly equal system would be everyone paying a flat tax of 17 percent. In an age when Democrats are proposing an extreme 70 percent income tax, the flat tax is a simple solution to ensure that all Americans pay their fair share. My predecessor and former Majority Leader Dick Armey championed the flat tax for decades, and it is a privilege to carry on this North Texas priority in the U.S. House of Representatives.”

Dr. Burgess has introduced the Flat Tax Act each Congress since 2003. You can read the full text of H.R. 1040 here.
