Washington, D.C. — Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, released the following statement after learning of the passing of Rep. Louise Slaughter of New York. “I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Rep. Louise Slaughter. It has been a privilege to serve alongside her in the Rules Committee. While we did not always agree on matters of policy, I always have respected Rep. Slaughter’s commitment to the people of New York and our nation. Not only was she a fellow Member of the Rules Committee, but also a fellow scientist. A microbiologist, Rep. Slaughter added great value to every conversation on science and technology. She will be greatly missed by our committee and the entire U.S. House of Representatives. My prayers are with the Slaughter family and all those who knew her.” |
