September 6, 2017
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, today released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the SELF DRIVE Act.
“Throughout my life, I have seen the life-saving effects of advancements in vehicle technology, from the seat belt, to the air bag, to anti-lock brakes. Self-driving vehicles are the next step in this trajectory. The SELF DRIVE Act not only will help save lives, but also will create jobs and ensure that we remain a global leader in innovation. This bill allows developers room to grow while making sure the technology is safe for consumers. “The Energy and Commerce Committee dedicated a good deal of time to self-driving vehicles while I was chairman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade in the 114th Congress. Today it was good to see the SELF DRIVE Act pass in the House of Representatives.” |
