Mr. Speaker, this past Monday, June 25, marked the 8th anniversary of the bombing of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia. At 9:35 p.m. local time, a truck bomb exploded with the force of 20,000 tons of TNT, and Americans were left dead. Americans who were due to return home two days later on the 27th of June. Mr. Speaker, we now know this was one of the first battles in the global war on terror. We have seen other such battles, and other Americans have lost their lives. We are now engaged in what the President describes as a forward strategy on the War on Terror. And he articulated that vision again, for the American people two nights ago, and I was grateful for his ability to do that. Mr. Speaker, the recollection of our record and what has happened in the past ten years time in the world has so changed everything we do in this House. But, again, the events of last evening showed us one more time how the world has changed around us. [On the evening of June 29th, the U.S Capitol and the surrounding government buildings, including the White House, were evacuated when a small, two-engine plane flew into restricted air space over Washington, DC.] I salute the families of the men and women who died at the Khobar Towers. God bless them, and God rest their souls and God bless every one of our troops serving today. I yield back. Watch Video
