Burgess Statement on the President’s Address on Afghanistan

“The way forward is inherently difficult.   It is important, however that the decisions made and put into motion by this agreement work for the benefit of both Afghanistan and America.”

Washington, D.C. –
Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (TX-26) tonight made the following statement regarding the President’s address on continued American involvement in Afghanistan:

“I welcome President Obama’s travel to Afghanistan to see matters first-hand on the ground.  The President recognizes his involvement is an extremely important part of finding a way forward.

“Reflecting on my return from Afghanistan just last week, I expect the President saw circumstances that remain similar.  There’s no question that diligence and sacrifice of all our soldiers has made a significant difference in the outlook in Afghanistan.

“Signing of this strategic agreement marks long days ahead, fraught with peril and difficulty for America, the Karzai government, and the people of Afghanistan.  In my meeting there with Afghans who are allied for reforms in the current government, they articulated many of the American public’s concerns regarding American involvement and the future of Afghanistan.   The way forward is inherently difficult.   It is important, however that the decisions made and put into motion by this agreement work for the benefit of both Afghanistan and America.”

Well that was a rather "Pie in the Sky" overly optimistic statement about Afghanistan! My son is active duty & I am praying he never has to return to that hellhole of a country again! The Prez did end zone dance for his own personel gain and political points! You know that agreement is a farce! We're supposed to support them for 10 more years when he is gutting our military and punitively punishing retired veterans by reneging on the promises we gave up a life or lifetime for! e.g. Tricare fees that will eat away our retirement pay to just live on! Where Federal and Union workers retirements continue to be protected! Their lives were not at risk in war zones just going to work! UNSUSTAINABLE is the word they keep using in regards to SS or our Benefits...as money is being funneled from DoD to the very enemies we're fighting! Please vote to protect our soldiers right and promises given to our active duty or retired! Thank you for listening!

Where are the Americans going to get the money to support this? We can not afford to be the world's police force any longer. Send our troops home. Is the government trying to bankrupt us to the point that the dollar is worth less than toilet paper? Did anyone else pay attention to Russia's economy? Bring our soldiers home! This is what American's want. We are the USA. Not government. When did the government take away our voice and stop acting on the behalf of the people? The Banks and the defense contractors are the only ones who win at the cost of the American people for generations to come.
